Ermenegildo Zegna
Founded as a wool mill at Trivero, in Biella, in 1910 by Ermenegildo Zegna. The group owns spinning, weaving and finishing, together with Australian sheep farms, and is the only luxury house to run from fleece to finished suit while supplying its cloth to rival makers. A Zegna cloth label does not, in itself, denote a Zegna garment.

Reading it in the hand
What gets looked at before a piece is catalogued, and what you can check yourself. Nothing here depends on the label.
- "Ermenegildo Zegna Cloth" or "Zegna Cloth" on a woven tag is not a Zegna garment. It identifies the fabric only, and it turns up inside suits cut by other makers.
- The sub-line name dates the piece. Z Zegna means 2003–2021; Ermenegildo Zegna Couture means pre-2021; the plain modern ZEGNA wordmark means 2021 or later.
- Z Zegna is not mainline: fused construction, fashion cuts, technical fabrics, at a fraction of mainline pricing.
- Cloth names on the tag are specifications, not lines — 15milmil15, 14milmil14, 13milmil13 give fibre diameter in microns; Trofeo, Traveller, High Performance, Cool Effect name fabrics.
- Fit blocks are named: Roma has a stronger shoulder and a fuller, more classical cut; Milano is softer-shouldered and slimmer.
- "Su Misura" means made-to-measure off a house block, not bespoke, and does not automatically sit above mainline.
